Berlin, Germany and Kiev, Ukraine - Two days before the kick off of Euro 2012, All Out members are joining with the first openly gay professional football player in Germany, Marcus Urban, in urging Merkel to use the Euro 2012 to denounce human rights violations and the anti-gay crackdown happening now in Ukraine.
"We just learned that the anti-gay law is now scheduled for vote in two weeks, said Olena Shevchenko
Chair of the Ukrainian LGBT organization Insight. In a move to make it illegal for anyone in Ukraine to say the word "gay" in public, this anti-gay law - Law 8711 - is advancing through the Ukrainian Parliament, with no public opposition from the highest level of Ukrainian authorities."

European Parliament: World Health Organization must stop treating transgender people as mentally ill |

In a resolution adopted yesterday, the European Parliament has called on the World Health Organization to stop considering transgender people as mentally ill. ‘Gender identity disorder’ is currently classified as a ‘mental and behavioural disorder’ in the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases.

In schools across Europe young persons are being harassed because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Homophobic and transphobic bullying is an every day reality in the lives of many. It is time to react – especially in view of several national studies and reports warning that there have been a number of suicides among young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) persons feeling rejected by their peers and families.
